Nature-Conservation vs. Preservation the Architecture
From 2nd to 5th of June 2006, preliminary to conceptual works,
investigations into the vegetation cover and its interference
in monument structure have been carried out in the Kaunas
Fortress No. 5, where potentials for conflicts between appropriate
measures of nature and monument conservation are probably the highest.
As a part of the work package “Nature and Monument” these
investigations were especially focused on
- the fortresses specific habitat conditions and its inventory of plant species
- ecological sensitivity and value of species and their biotopes
- tree and shrub formations, which heavily affect the stability of brick walls,
- valuable and attractive old trees to be protected.
